I have 3 cats that are crazy about scratching posts. I have a cute cactus and they are fraying in the middle. So I unwrapped the really bad "curly" part (it was lightly taped to the cardboard cylinder). Then I tied the new end to the remaining end, tucked it in and started wrapping it, pulling it tight and making sure the rows were tightly packed. I used a hand stapler to attach the cord vertically to the cylinder every few inches. (I made sure there were no open staples to damage the cat's paws). Make the last clip on top and tuck the short end between the top of the cylinder before screwing the top of the cactus back on. I think it looks pretty good and it was pretty economical. I took a medium sized ball of yarn to make sure I had enough. I might have enough left over to redo if needed.
