Review on πŸ”ˆ NHT C Series C-1 Premium Home Theater 2-Way Bookshelf Speaker - Clean, High-Resolution Audio, Sealed Enclosure, Aluminum Drivers, Single, Glossy Black by John Brazington

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Top notch speaker. The value of the first bet.

I wanted to add great sounding speakers to my small living room (in addition to the speakers that are part of the home theater system). While I've never owned NHT speakers, my general impression is that they're well-regarded (although there are some unflattering reviews on this site that seem to be everywhere. I recommend ignoring them). So I ordered a pair. In my opinion they stand out: clear, full range and natural sound. Plus they look fantastic and the size (just over 46 pounds per speaker) isn't so big that they can't be placed or moved around. But how do they compare to other speakers? I can only tell you how they compare to other speakers I own and listen to regularly. I have a pair of Magnepan LRS speakers and a pair of Polk Audio LSIM 705 Tower speakers in my living room, they are completely different speakers and both are very good. I think people who have them or have viewed them generally agree. The LRS are airy and detailed, with a huge soundstage. Shelves are bold, deep, charming and authoritative. The NHT towers do an excellent job with these two speakers. In fact, they are more revealing. You hear texture and detail in music better not only at high frequencies, but also at mid and low frequencies. And like these speakers, they have a powerful sound. Carpenter is also equal or superior to both. On the other hand, all these speakers require power. I like my music to be a bit loud (not loud for raising the ceiling, but definitely too loud for conversation). The NHT recommends 75 to 250 watts per channel and rightly so, the closer to 250 watts per channel the better.

Pros
  • So far so good
Cons
  • Almost everything included
