Use this to know when someone enters the porch, which is at the other end of the house from the day use areas. It seems reliable at picking up people and vehicles coming in, but it's certainly not a 1/4 mile range. The farthest entrance to the entrance is about 80 feet from the house. If you place the receiver in the kitchen at the other end of the house, it will not receive a signal. It wasn't until the receiver was brought to the end of the house closest to the driveway with a mostly clear line of sight (a few low bushes in between) that it didn't pick up a signal. When we turn up the volume we hear everything just fine, it would just be nice to put the listener where we wanted. Update: 10 months and this system has gone downhill. Constant false alarms, my wife and I both watched it go off, NOTHING was near the sensors. Send units can no longer be set for sensitivity, both have been changed to high (even at the time of posting) and cannot be changed to lower settings no matter how many times you follow the instructions. I can't believe someone or something pulled into the driveway.
