It comes with a pre-printed canvas, embroidery floss, thread holder, two needles and instructions, and a small photo of the finished canvas so you know what you're working on. The case it comes in is made out of very thin plastic, so you'll probably want to convert the kit to a work case, or at least a more secure case with a lock. The canvas is printed cleanly with the colors aligned across the squares. It also has a 10x10 grid printed on it so you can keep your spot. The ink is water soluble so you need to keep the canvas dry until you finish sewing. A one-page copy of the chart is included, but it's a bit small to work with. The colors on the canvas don't always match the color you'll embroider with, but this is done so you can see the pattern better. The yarn is cotton, it is already pre-cut and sorted into a holder for you. Each color is identified with a chart symbol and color and a DMC color. There are two tapestry needles in the set, which is always a good thing. The canvas is available in many sizes, so you don't have to use a frame. I wouldn't recommend a frame as it leaves too many marks and creases even if you can apply it to the fabric. The instructions are very simple and translated into English. They show you how to make a few basic stitches and how to choose the color you want, but not how and where to start or end. If you are a beginner, you can watch a video or buy a book about embroidery. It's a smaller canvas, 14 x 10, and only has 18 colors, so it's not too big a project to start with. Also, it's always better to do a project you really like, and who doesn't like a kid?
