Just got my Fluke 289 standalone. I think I got a good deal from Revain. Right now, Revain is offering a $104.98 coupon or rebate and a free (free) calibration of Transcat. I couldn't get past this deal. I also have a tank, sorry, Fluke 28II, both meters are on the same level, of course, 289 is the best. I use these counters in my personal lab, I design things like house thermostats, garage door openers, of course these devices are controlled by the iPhone etc. This counter was developed many years ago, I think over 10 years ago. Like an old school counter. Fluke is updating it a bit now. Here is the good part of my counter that says it was made here in the USA in December 2018. This bar just came out of the oven when I got it was still smoking. It was calibrated by Transcat on January 29, 2019. Could not be better. Here's a strange detail: the firmware says this is version 1.41, right? I don't think Fluke has released this firmware version yet. I might be wrong. I've noticed a couple of strange issues, not sure if these are real issues or if the counter is arranged in a way that somehow doesn't make sense to me. Here's the first one: The display backlight has a weird setting: When I press: 1 - the display backlight goes high 2 - the display backlight goes low 3 - the display backlight turns off. Press 1 should be LOW, press 2 should be high and 3 should be OFF. I believe that's in the manual. If we're in a battery saver store, this should be it. Another problem, or possibly not a problem. I need to contact Fluke, maybe I don't know the gauge that well. Anyway, in settings, display, format, number format it shows 0.000 when I click change it doesn't do anything, doesn't change anything. UPDATE 4/17/19 I have contacted Fluke about the firmware version, they said 1.41 is the latest and greatest, Fluke will update the website soon. The "problem" number format is not a problem here, it just changes from dot to comma. and vice versa, just look. Brightness High/Low (should be Low then High) Brightness examines this according to Fluke.
