I have a MacBook Pro with Touch Bar. I bought an OWC USB-C docking station that only has a display output. I have two old Apple Cinema Displays (DVI input). I bought this item to connect a USB-C cable to my computer and use both displays, drives, etc. I was amazed that this thing worked. I had to install the driver. But it was very straight forward. I didn't ask myself if I chose the right software. The cinema screen is not a normal "1080P" aspect ratio. I was concerned that this unit would not fit. And so it was. My computer recognizes the display, not the adapter. It also detects additional audio inputs/outputs. That's a wonderful thing. I'm tempted to get another one with an HDMI output so I can use the TV as a secondary display. I can't talk about frame rate, color depth, or any other specs. At night I work as an audio engineer and during the day I work with spreadsheets. However, I can say that two identical film displays stand side by side and look/feel the same. The speed of my external drives is also the same. . I'm just amazed that there aren't any negative side effects from powering the display via USB.
