The hat is extra thick, perfect for cold weather. The scarf is thinner than the hat, but perfectly protects the neck from the wind. It's getting cold here in Michigan and it's so nice to have a round scarf for my toddler because it keeps making other scarves fall off. He can forget it and he will stay and keep him warm. I could take some thread and tie a hat to a scarf so he doesn't bunch up when he takes it off on the bus. The material is soft, elastic, beautiful gray color. I can highly recommend this set because of the low price.
