Yes, it's loud. Yes, it lathers well. No, it's not cheap. Yes, I love it, but I first discovered the Senseo coffee machine in Europe a few years ago. 40 euros at Carrefour. Coffee pods are widely available there for just a few euros for a pack of 28 pods. The machine is ordinary, so the capsules are made under different labels, not just Senseo. The only problem was that 208 volts, 50 Hz just didn't work at home; 1500W power converter does not make sense. I've wanted one in the US for a long time and was glad it was available on Amazon! (Must like the no-hassle return policy). So it works pretty much like the European version, although admittedly it looks cheap. (of course also the European version, but what do you expect for 40 euros?). I'm guessing the assembly cost is under $20 so it's definitely not a bargain purchase. I expected a little more for this price. Capsules are very difficult to find; I've searched all the local grocery stores and only found these polluting mugs. Revain certainly sells them (I've only seen branded Senseo's) - and of course for a lot more - usually three times the price of the third-party pods in European grocery stores. Of course, Senseo capsules are pretty tasty, if not noticeably better. I also bought a Senseo Coffee Variety Pack Sampler - 6 flavors (pack of 6) as well as Senseo Espresso (16 pods) and even Senseo Coffee pods - 36 pods - (Senseo Decaf - 36 pods) - we don't usually drink decaf, but Senseo is quite powerful (although yes, double tap is weaker, but what's the catch?) The European version isn't silent, of course, but this one is actually even louder: the small metal drain pan under the cup vibrates heavily during brewing. A light cup will make the sound worse as it will ring against the metal. A clamp or screw could solve this problem. This was clearly a redesign - why not make improvements here? Another small annoyance is the amount of coffee: in the European version, I can fill the cup by pressing the "2 people" button. A cup is just over half that here, so a double is larger than a full coffee cup (read: Be careful not to overflow). I never had to worry about that with the European version. is - a holder that is used regularly. However, this is not a 5 star product as it is expensive for what you get and there is definitely room for improvement.
