Review on πŸ“Ί HDHomeRun PRIME Cable HDTV by SiliconDust by Faten Teller

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Pretty good device.

I have been trying to shorten the cable for many years but have never found a solution that meets all of our TV and film needs. I shouldn't be talking about cutting the cable because I'm still a cable subscriber, but this device cut our TV bill in half. We used to pay around $140 a month for a set top box and DVR. I bought this device and subscribed to Mediacom Basic TV for local channels and sports. We use Netflix, Hulu and Revain Prime to cover TV shows and movies. Plex now supports DVR with these devices. It's still in beta and I'm really struggling. Plex often doesn't randomly play scheduled live or DVR recordings, which is a big problem these days. My wife threatens to harm me if her big brother refuses to record for no reason. But like I said, the Plex dash cam is still in beta and I knew there were going to be issues. I had an old Intel quad core desktop with a 4GB and 1TB hard drive. I installed Ubuntu Server on it and installed Plex Server on it, that's literally all there is on this machine. I use Roku Ultra for playback and live TV and they are fantastic. Overall we have a lot more half price media/TV than we did when we had the cable company DVR set top box plan. If you're considering using this with Plex, do your research and learn about issues and supported devices. I highly recommend using the Roku Ultra as a playback device.
