I bought (2) of these a few years ago for a 65 gallon filter under gravel. One ended up dying so I'm buying more (2). I use a canister filter as the base unit but prefer the ug filter as an add on. These units contain a short air tube that extends above the water surface to provide LOTS of ventilation without the need for a separate air pump. At the end of the air hose is a simple screw control valve to adjust the ventilation level. Air is passively drawn through the hose by the pump flow. The bubble size changes from smaller to larger as the valve opens. The pumps are quiet and the bubbles can make more noise than the pump. The heads have suction cups and can be fully rotated from left to right. I removed the deflectors because I wanted to stir up the currents at the bottom of the pumps, but I think they can be installed to deviate 360 degrees in any direction. Revane didn't like my video or photo, but I tried.
