As a MACS certified professional mechanic, I believed that negative reviews could be due to user installation errors or faulty systems, incorrect skills, incorrect applications, etc. However, you are correct. This is the most useless waste of time and money I have ever installed. Here in Las Vegas, Nevada, where outside temperatures top 115 degrees in the summer, I was looking for extra cooling capacity for my 2001 Ford F250. I remember almost 100 years ago when they were almost $100 and thought the price was ridiculous . Luckily the price has come down and this summer I decided to give it a try for less than $20 and some time. I expertly restored the vacuum in the system and removed the factory tube. I installed this unit and filled in the appropriate oil and refrigerant. Immediately I noticed a few red flags, the low-side dynamic pressure was high, the high-side dynamic pressure was low, the cabin temperature drop from the center deflector was 30 degrees below ambient, technically enough. I tested the product during the work week, 5 days. In these 5 days I have noticed that the central vent temperature is getting worse day by day and the compressor runs in short strokes, only on days with outside temperatures above 110Β°, basically the tube does exactly the opposite of what is advertised. Since it was a short cycle I thought maybe I knocked off the o-ring on the line during installation, maybe I lost the charge within a week (WRONG). Connected the air conditioner and found that the pressure is intermittently low, low, dynamic, high, high, dynamic, serious fluctuations, high pressure on the low pressure side, low pressure on the high pressure side. Enough, FULL system performance restored! Since this tube was the only recent change to the system, I wanted to remove it and found that it had fallen apart. The back half attempted to move down to the evaporator while the screen and guts moved in line to the condenser. After two hours I finally dug up and blew out all the pieces of the failed "variable" hole. . I reinstalled the new red Motorcraft hard fitting pipe and don't you know everything is back to normal pressure and the center vent temp is back to 45-55 degrees even in the "extreme" ambient temperatures? Luckily as a mechanic I'm just down time and not the shop's hired hand and as I caught it in time nothing further was damaged but for the average consumer this part is a costly mistake. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT! Stick to OEM fixed-bore hoses instead. Save time and money. Do not believe me? See photos.
