Review on ๐Ÿ“ก Tram-Browning BR-6140 450MHzโ€“470MHz: Premium Pretuned Land Mobile Antenna for Superior Base Station Performance by Phil Morales

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Definitely 5 stars for the GMRS antenna and the great price, but let's talk more.

I bought this antenna for a basic GMRS antenna that covers two frequency bands: 462MHz (simplex frequency) and 467MHz (duplex frequency for repeaters). You can't tune this antenna, but the standard SWR was 1.2 and 1.3 respectively. There is no gain, which is good for most situations and especially GMRS! I like the reviewer who uses it as a mobile antenna in his wooden shield truck. This is actually a great use for this antenna and he said he struggles with higher gain antennas in the mountains. Also the reviewer who installed it right outside the window is another great use of this antenna. I think people don't understand reinforcement very well and just want more no matter what. But it's like the difference between a headlight and a headlight. The unit's buff is a spotlight, it illuminates a large area. It's really what you want, it's respect for GMRS. More gain is great if you live in a flat area or want to point the antenna at something far away (e.g. high gain TV antennas on the rotor). This is NOT a dual band antenna although it does occur below SWR 2 around 420MHz. If you are an amateur radio enthusiast, you had better not buy this dual band antenna, you will be disappointed. The antenna has an N jack instead of the more common UHF SO239 connector. So plan accordingly to get the right adapter. I got mine from Revain but it would certainly have been nice if the seller had stated this in the description, I caught that tidbit in one of the reviews. The gold piece on the bottom is 1.27" in diameter, another piece of information I may not be able to find. I'm planning to mount it centrally on a 1" EMT mast with a coupler. It would be nice to have the right coupler on hand and not have to wait for the antenna to come. Summary; If you're after a great base If you are looking for a GMRS antenna, especially for a repeater, at a good price, this is for you.If you are looking for a multi-band antenna, this is not for you.
