I bought a manual operated AM/FM emergency weather radio for two main reasons. Sound for a portable radio the size of a transistor. As mentioned in some other posts, the device has some downsides. Of the several radios I've tested (all branded "LifeLong," a different name from Innovage, but essentially the same model), some wouldn't turn on even after turning the power button for 30 seconds. All radios that have worked, including mine, require the volume switch to be moved before the volume is turned on. I haven't heard the emergency weather station yet. I only get FM and AM stations. At the low end of the VHF band, the selectivity between the 90.1 FM and 94 FM frequency bands is poor in one respect - a strong station around 94 FM will be heard again at 90.1 FM, crowding out a weaker station centered at 90, 1 FM should be heard. this frequency. Apart from this problem, most other FM stations can be heard normally. The telescopic antenna does not extend as far as we would like. I associate length with greater receptivity. So far, the receiver has picked up FM stations adequately even with a shorter antenna - even in a shop with bright neon lighting. The selectivity with AM stations at night is average - some stations that I can receive on other radios can only be heard if I turn this radio in a certain direction and hold the device in that position. Now for the strengths - the handle fits snugly on the block and pulls out easily for spinning. The radio station numbers, which appear in a small horizontal window at the top of the device's front panel, are fairly visible, albeit up close (due to the small font), but at least the station display dial is red and easy to see. The switches are sensibly separated so as not to be confused in function - the volume and settings controls are on top, on/off - on the side, as are the range switches. According to the product description, the device is waterproof. I still don't want water spilling onto the top of the radio where the tuning and volume switches are! This unit is deeper than most small portable transistors and for added breadth, the listener gets the bonus of deeper bass typically lacking in transistor radios. In fact, for such a small package, this offers some of the deepest bass I've ever heard. High frequencies are average at best. Sometimes the "s" and "t" sounds heard on sensitive radios are barely audible on this TV. The feel of the set (the black painted part) is superb - the material feels more like soft rubber than hard plastic. The kit comes with a carrying strap attached to the back of the device and headphones. After running the device for about 15-30 seconds, I had power for at least 30 minutes. I installed two AA batteries, to make sure the kit will work with them. And so it was. Then I connected the adapter (6VDC) and while it was plugged in for about 30 seconds the "charging" light stayed on. I haven't touched the set for a few days. I was shocked to learn that a week later when I turned on the volume button, there was a loud noise without turning the power button manually. A friend suggested that nickel-cadmium batteries could be built into the device to hold the power. I thought that the device would only work for a short time and then, if not used, would fail completely. It looks like my kit has been holding a charge the entire time. This is a great backup radio, if you don't want to mess with batteries and also want slightly above average sound for a solid state radio. I bought this unit on sale but even at a normal price it is good value for money - decent sound and three ways to get power - manual, from a battery and from an adapter.
