Perfect bathroom scale but needs some work

This is an old fashioned scale with a huge face and lots of space to set it up. Perfect for the bathroom and at least for me much nicer to use than a digital scale. Please note that this is a mechanical device and will therefore require a little finesse to get the most out of it. Here's what I noticed: FLOOR SURFACE All scales should be placed on a level and firm surface. If you place it on something resilient like carpet, the surface will rebound and exhibit increased weight. That goes for all scales, not just this one. ZERO SCALE Many people make mistakes and then complain about accuracy problems. As with most scales, there is a knob for setting "zero" by slightly moving the arrow left or right. Because the needle and indicator wheel are mechanical, there is some friction in the system. If you put your foot on the scale and quickly remove it, you will see the needle go to zero and the momentum carry it past zero a little into negative territory WHERE IT THEN stops. It stops there due to friction. If you tap the weight lightly with the toe of your foot, you'll see the dart disengage and return to a near-zero point. A few more clicks and you'll see how the hand shakes with each click, but always returns to its original position. Here you want to adjust the slider so that the zero points to this starting point. I usually quickly press the scale twice before getting up to (1) make sure it's still zero, and (2) most importantly, make sure I'm getting a consistent weight reading every time. WHERE TO STOP notes that there is a way to "maximize" the weight displayed on the scale. You should stand up straight and lean forward a little. Since the laws of physics seem to dictate that I cannot exert more force than my weight, I interpret maximum weight as true weight. If you'd rather fool yourself, you can sit back and lose about a pound. All in all a great weight. Only four stars because for the price I wish the dial was glass instead of plastic.
