I had a dash mount with a bent mounting plate because I left the suction cup mount attached while the car was in the sun. The deformed plate prevented the suction cup from gripping securely when my GPS was installed. I used a heat gun to heat the mounting plate just enough to flatten it (though not flat enough for the suction cup to grab), cleaned it with the alcohol wipe provided, and fitted the new adapter plate on top. After setting it up for 24 hours, I took it on a week-long trip to Florida and had absolutely no problem with it holding the GPS suction cup securely, even after sitting outside in the sun. Saved a lot of money buying a new dash mount. Highly recommended.
