RonXer is an affordable way to fairly flatten vinyl records with little distortion. Upon closer inspection, you'll find that nearly all records aren't perfectly flat (including 180 gram vinyl), which can result in inaccurate sound and/or extra surface noise during playback. My direct drive turntable is an entry-level model, so I decided to start by replacing the rubber mat with an acrylic platter, which gave the music noticeably more detail. I later decided to add a platter clamp as well to see if it could be made even better - and it was! Comparing the same recordings (with and without the RonXer) I found a cleaner sound and more audible deep bass when the weight stabilizer held the record flat on the platter. Attractive in appearance, this RonXer weight has a felt pad on the underside so it won't damage the paper label on your record when placed on the spindle. I understand that there are many different types and manufacturers of turntables (some insanely expensive) and differing opinions on how a record should sound, but based on my personal experience with the RonXer and given the reasonable price, I highly recommend trying it out!
