Review on πŸ’Ύ PNY 64GB Elite-X Fit USB 3.1 Flash Drive - High-Speed 200MB/s by Jeff Labore

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Smokin' Fast, FAT32 and it works great!

Product: PNY 256GB Elite-X Fit USB 3.0 Flash Drive (64G/256G) There are many old reviews complaining about speed, format and so on. I have no doubt these folks struggled for one reason or another, but I recently bought a 64GB drive and then a 256GB version and found them to meet the specs and for use with TVs and other pre-formatted common devices. Nice. The reading speed easily exceeds 200 MB/s and the writing speed is very good. The 256G device actually writes at over 100MB/s, making disc loading very fast. Bulk transfers that filled these drives at once did not cause any heat issues at all. Interestingly, both drives have been formatted to FAT32 with 32K allocation units, so they can be used directly with TVs and other devices that don't (usually) support exFAT/NTFS. A large allocation unit provides very little storage overhead associated with space management, thereby maximizing the available storage space. Large allocation units are best for large (media) files. If your specific use emphasizes smaller files, it may be better to reformat the drive to exFAT or NTFS if your access device supports those formats. While Win10 can easily format >=64G drives as exFAT/NTFS, it refuses to format these large drives as FAT32, which requires a third-party app. It's very convenient that PNY goes to great lengths to pre-format them with the harder to reach FAT32 to anticipate use with more demanding televisions and entertainment devices. are very fast and easy-to-use drives with very low heat generation. See attached CrystalDiskMark test results for 64G and 256G modules.
