Review on Sonos Beam - Smart TV Sound Bar with Built-in Amazon Alexa - Black by Corey Vaz

New SONOS Fanboy for Home Audio

This is my first SONOS purchase and I'm glad I made the choice. Here's some background: I have a fairly large living room in my new house and it's already hardwired for surround sound, so I was tempted to buy a receiver and a 5.1 cable setup (which sure sounds great), but I've read on about wireless surround sound, and in every review I've read or video I've seen, SONOS has stood out as one of the best with wireless audio. I went with SONOS and stepped through a 5.1 setup using SONOS (it's an expensive product) and starting with just the soundbar and then gradually adding the subwoofer and satellites. That's when the next discussion came up - Playbar, Playbase or wait for the upcoming Beam, so I chose Beam:1. Alexa, Airplay, and upcoming Google Assistant integration rolled into one is a game changer. I'm an Apple Music subscriber, but using Alexa to turn the TV on and off, skip tracks, or change the volume is very convenient. I can then airplay music from any of my Apple devices to the Beam. I don't need a HomePod in my living room at all, and I don't need a separate soundbar either. I killed 2 birds with one stone.2. It sounds incredible. As I said, my living room is larger than a medium sized living room and has high ceilings (2 stories up). And the kitchen and breakfast area is open plan, making it a huge family room. I set up Beam and TruPlay right away. The results are fantastic. The sound fills the room, and even at half volume, the music is incredibly good. I wasn't expecting that much bass from this thing, but it's good enough to make me want to buy a $700 sub. After adding 2 gaming satellites, the setup sounds amazing.3. You don't need to worry about the proprietary audio/video formats you're playing. Anything playing audio on your TV is heard through SONOS and all you need is a remote control.

Pros
  • High Definition Sound. Enjoy rich, detailed sound for your TV that fills the whole room.
