We bought this set after our pepper grinder broke. Recently, pepper mills have been using small pieces of plastic inside that don't last as long. So good luck in your search for a "buy for life" pepper mill. I wanted to buy it for a year or two more. Now I gave it to my wife, we use a lot of pepper. We cook at home every day and put fresh pepper in all our recipes and also on the finished product. I bet we use three times the average household. So your experience may differ from ours. Not on this current set. The salt mill works great with no problems. But the pepper mill turned out to be extremely demanding. Every time we wanted to use it, we had to turn it upside down and tap our palm to loosen the pepper sticks at the bottom of the grinder. If you don't use that much pepper, you might never notice, but we did. After just a month of use I gave up and bought a new set. This set is still fine and 'works as usual' but it remains on the dining table to be used there. The new set is in the kitchen by the stove, where most of the pepper is used. This set is cute, fun and almost perfect, but the pepper yield is way too low.
