There are two light levels, the lower one is perfect if you just want to give the impression of a burning vow, the brighter mode is useful if you use it as a night light or in a brighter room. the remote works perfectly. Turn on your vows, aim the remote control and turn off the device or use one of the timers (4 hours or 8 hours). If you choose a temporary setting, it will turn back on 24 hours after you first choose it. To override, simply use the remote control to turn the candles on and off. I have five candles in my very dark hallway lined up along a mirror. They have a lower lighting setting and are set at 8 o'clock. They appear at six every evening (because it gets dark here) and give enough light to see, but not so much light that you can see the dust balls in the corners. I used to use real candles here, but I was afraid they might hit when people try to squeeze in a tight space. I have five more on the mantel above my fireplace and they are on bright as they are often turned on while other lighting makes the room relatively bright. They come on for four hours every night around 7pm and serve as a good bedtime reminder when they're "burned out" by 11pm.
