Review on Sena Motorcycle Bluetooth Headset Communication System: Enhancing Rider Connectivity and Safety by Rick Turner

Revainrating 3 out of 5

So far so good for the high price

Very expensive upgrade to SMH10 but as race director I had to communicate with more than 3 other drivers. Range, clarity and sound are better. The open mesh is easy to set up and use without gloves. My first 50S had a bad battery. As soon as I took it off the charge it dropped below 80%. On my first ride, I got the low battery indicator after just an hour. Switched to another device, it seems to be much better. Several other reviewers had the same issue. The wireless dongle is difficult to set up and the instructions are vague. I had to turn off my home wifi so my phone could see the wifi dongle signal during setup and then reconnect it to finish. Also, make sure you are not connected to Sena until the dongle is properly configured and connected to your WiFi. My dongle updated its software as soon as it was connected. When I then connected it to Sena, it was also updated. The voice control hardly works. Maybe 20% of the time. Absolutely worst key layout. In winter gloves it is very difficult to find the grid button. The original semi-circle jog was much easier to feel and control. If the voice control works better then this might not be a problem. Hopefully some software updates will fix voice control, but I doubt it. I remember when I bought the SMH10 there were promises of future updates, but none of them proved particularly helpful.

Pros
  • Great design
Cons
  • Expensive
