Review on Icona Bay Picture Regency Collection by Christine Noland

Great for Rembrandt

We recently visited the Isabella Gardner Museum in Boston to see a beautiful display of Botticelli. There we learned the sad story of the museum robbery in 1990. One of the paintings stolen by the robbers is a Rembrandt. Not only was it the only Rembrandt in the museum, it was also the only seascape ever painted by Rembrandt. The museum's gift shop sells smaller-scale reprints of the painting. I love seascapes (Aivazovsky anyone?). Of course I have one to hang at home. Reprint 8x10 with white mat to fill up to 11x14. The colors of the painting are rather dark to show the mischief of a dangerous sea voyage. The color scheme, size, carpet color, and height all called for a dark wood frame 1.5-2 inches wide. Wood is expensive so I ended up with a faux plastic one that looked good in the Revain photos. And let me tell you that for this particular job the result is totally satisfactory. My walls are painted a light color so it will look amazing when I hang it up. In general, the product is very satisfied. It doesn't look cheap. It doesn't look like wood, but it doesn't look like cheap plastic either. It is not flimsy, very durable, but at the same time light because it is made of plastic. And I must say that the back does not close tightly. You need to add some girth to your insert to keep it from rattling inside. Like cutting out cardboard and the like.
