I originally bought this for my teenage daughter to carry around in her backpack but found myself using it. I walk a lot and have found it very effective at keeping barking dogs away, which I discovered quite by accident. When it arrived we tested it and it was very noisy and annoying. The dog ran for cover and that gave me the idea to walk around with it in the area where there are a lot of stray dogs. For the price, I'm sure it saved me at least one dog bite and somehow seems more polite than yelling at other people's dogs. It is easy to carry (very discreet) and use. I've also taken it on forest walks because I thought it might scare away a black bear (haven't tested it on a bear yet) and at least act as a signal for help.
