Might be an issue with older systems

I installed this on an old Lenovo Thinkstation D30 workstation, which in its day was a very powerful system with two Xeon processors and a relatively large power supply. The system had an existing Inatek 6-port PCIE USB 3.0 card and a few remaining free PCIE slots. An updated Nvidia 1080 graphics card is also included. After about 10 hours of effort, I got everything up and running. Initially I had severe instability with the USB ports in the system (on this card and also on an old Inatek card). I've also had a number of video issues with my multi-monitor setup (3 monitors, 2 of which are in constant use). I should add that prior to installing this update card I had no problems with the computer and it was a very stable if tricky install. I won't go into detail as some of these issues were probably unique to my particular setup. During the troubleshooting process I installed and uninstalled many video drivers for testing, changed the cables and connectors used for my monitors, moved the old USB card and this new one through the various available PCIE slots, flashed/updated the BIOS, replaced the CMOS Battery. , changed various parameters in the BIOS, removed and reinstalled the graphics card, experimented with USB drivers and I will not bore you with many other things. Everything seems to be working now. I would like to point out that the logical buyer of this card is someone with an older system that doesn't have USB 3.1 Gen 2 ports. I wouldn't consider it a simple solution to this problem. If you're familiar with PC internals, know how to fix Windows problems, and don't mind spending many hours on this update, then go for it. If your skills are limited to taking the side panel off the table and putting the card in the slot, you may end up with more than you expected or can handle. It looks like a good card, but don't look at it. as a plug and play upgrade as it can be significantly more complex and you may encounter problems that you cannot solve.

Pros
  • Pretty packaging
Cons
  • Poorly thought out
