I have purchased 6ft and 10ft cables. I use them to play my MP3 player (Zune) through my stereo. They can also be used on a TV with audio inputs. When using it through my stereo, I can control things (with the remote) like volume, mute, etc., but I can't skip a selection I don't like. I'm listening at the moment. By shuffling my MP3, I can create a versatile music session. I might miss some of the features available on the dock, but I still have about $100 in my wallet. I think you get what you pay for.
