I'd like to start off by saying that I'm a bit of a music lover. I'm not entirely sure why I decided to purchase the Skull Candy brand headphones, but I think it has something to do with a pair of $8 headphones I bought from them a few years ago and which showed response below 40Hz on the cheap ones. Headphones were actually possible. Anyhow, I recently decided to buy a pair of Bluetooth training headphones and I was mesmerized by the tactile bass feature and insane battery life. Also, I can't be too picky about the sound during workouts. (I think basic sound quality expectations were set too high for these headphones. Let's just say the Apple headphones that came with my late iPhone 5 exceeded those things.) I guess let's start with the bad to: 1. HAPTIC BASS IS AWESOME! I don't even get into that. First, tactile bass only affects the mid-bass range of the sound, not the bass itself. Modern pop basslines use tactile bass, but TRUE LOW NOTES DO NOT USE TACTICAL BASS! This creates an incredibly weird sound signature with a massive shelf that at least jumps +30dB in the mid-bass range. This should be called the tactile middle base.2. Tactile bass is muddy and undefined. Seriously, I think it produces a maximum of 5 different frequencies.3. WHY I DID NOT HEAR THESE EARPHONES: One engineer thought it would be great to add a power saving feature that would disable that tactile bass when the music didn't need it. It would be a perfectly legitimate feature if the tactile bass activated instantly when needed. Instead, the tactile bass only activates 3-5 seconds after the "bass dropβ (seriously!). This results in a dramatic change in the sound signature every time the tactile bass is turned on. Let's say a song has 4 bass-heavy choruses and almost no bass in the verses. When the bass drops off, the tactile bass kicks in 3 seconds after the chorus begins and 3 seconds after the chorus ends. Not only does this mean you have an oddly changing sonic response, it means the frequency response changes drastically 8 times throughout the song! In summary, the music in these headphones sounds very different but awful.4. Bluetooth connectivity leaves a lot to be desired. As you move, the sound seems severely clipped.5. The membranes used by the tactile bass boom with every step you take while running. This probably explains why the tactile bass is so free. Pros: 1. The battery life seems to be as good as they advertise. Better than any Bluetooth headphones I've ever tried.
