Review on Flames Cotton Welding Gloves - BSX BX9C by Christopher Isaac

Happy with the protection

I'm new to welding and buying a specialty jacket seemed like overkill. Especially since I weld at my local makerspace and will probably only wear it a few times a year. I've used it several times and changed my mind. No burns and no sweat and grinding residues on the hands. It helps me feel safe and I can focus on putting on a good bead instead of worrying about burning myself. It's much thicker than a regular shirt, but not as thick as a canvas. I get hotter when I first put it on, but once I start welding and grinding I don't notice it. My shirt doesn't get wet when I take it off. It has two buttons on the clasp around the neck and two on the wrists. There are also two snaps on the lower back, one on the left and one on the right, to pull the material in and bring it closer to the stomach. I usually wear an oversized shirt but ordered this in size XL. It was a good decision. I can cross my arms across my chest and the sleeves don't ride up. Someone in a store wearing XL (and sometimes XXL) shirts couldn't get their hands inside the jacket (crossed tightly at the shoulders). Care Instructions: Wash in cold water without bleach or fabric softener and tumble dry away from shirt. Sun to protect flame retardant treatment. It also says to change after 50 washes. At $25 if I wash it after each use, I can live on 50 cents a use. In any case, I will not wash it every time I weld. I'm a little uncomfortable doing this (red flames and all) while more experienced welders try it in t-shirts. But I also strongly believe in the need to protect yourself at work. In the end I am happy with my purchase. It doesn't burn me, doesn't get covered with sweat residue, doesn't cause suffocation, and doesn't restrict movement. Will definitely buy again when this one wears out.
