This is my ***fifth*** case since I bought my Surface Pro 3 in 2014. I received this keyboard today, brand new in the box. It's a different model from the previous four, but it has the same soft "feel" of the buttons as the one it just replaced (which only lasted three months before malfunctioning). Some of the buttons on this one have to be pressed very hard to activate it, which is also the same as the previous one (fourth). The other three types of lids were different models (two were the Surface Pro 4 with fingerprint reader and the first came with the Surface) and each lasted between six months and a year. My Surface gets daily use, but not much, so there's no reason for a short lifespan other than poor quality. The two Surface Pro 4s with fingerprint readers performed best in terms of battery life (a little over a year each) and keyboard feel (pleasant). They're also the most expensive of all the types of cases I've tried. I don't really want to buy any of the aftermarket Bluetooth keyboards/cases, but at $100-$150 for the five types of cases I've had so far, I've spent way too much on Microsoft junk. EDIT: The trackpad often stops working. Just received a return label (barely made a window) - on its way back.
