Does it right

I read the reviews before buying and saw that others had issues. When it arrived I charged and tested it immediately so I could send it back if there were any problems. After two weeks it's still working great. This continues at night. During the day he goes away. It draws its strength from the sunlight. The rain doesn't bother him. The blue-violet (probably mostly invisible ultraviolet) lamp shines brightly and attracts nocturnal insects and mosquitoes. The tension hits them pretty loud, which is reassuring. It needs regular combing. The noise didn't bother me. I love that stainless steel looks better than black PVC alternatives, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. The manual doesn't explain what a detonator is. Before the first use, the lamp must be pre-charged. When I connected the charger (included) for the first time, the indicator light was orange. After a few hours it turned green. Obviously this meant it was loaded. (Why doesn't the manual mention this? It's a nice feature.) When the bulb is out and getting enough light to charge, the indicator light glows orange. I haven't noticed yet that it glows green in the sun, which could mean it's not fully charged but is still doing its job. I didn't get up to see if it would last until dawn. I don't care because I don't use the deck in the early hours. You must position it so that it receives 5 hours of sunlight or more. Mine went on even though we had a lot of overcast weather. (While the Pacific Northwest scorched to a scary point, Alabama was well below normal—you know.) I have nothing bad to say about the light. I can buy another to put one at each end of my deck.

Cons
  • Big and bulky
