Review on πŸ•οΈ Lavario Portable Clothes Washer: Non-Electric Washing Machine for Camping, Apartments, RV’s, Delicates - Blue & White (Made in USA) by Timothy Spinner

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Washing is easy and efficient with some limitations

It definitely cleans clothes and it works really well compared to other options I've tested, but a few flaws make me think it deserves the 5 star rating everyone else gives it give, not deserve. Also, before buying, I recommend reading the instructions on the network. It's published on their website and has some additional details that might help you decide if this device is right for you. Pros: * Works great with very smelly clothes and sweaty workout clothes, quite well with a moldy bath towel. .* Light, with low complexity and good yield. Robust construction. Cons: * Difficult to dry - clothes will get soaked in water no matter what you do (as other reviewers have pointed out), although the documentation suggests you can squeeze the water out from under the basket once you're done. The best I could do is leave them in the bathroom on a dryer with a powerful fan overnight. Spinning doesn't help either.* The handle cannot be removed. In fact, at the beginning of the guide, there's a big warning that you might break the handle if you try. This is problematic, both because it would be much easier to store the item with the handle removed, and because the unit will be damaged if you have to return it. I didn't see anything about it when researching this purchase. Note that there is actually a way to do this using a flathead screwdriver and some patience, but I wouldn't bother with it. *Soap - No recommendations on how much soap to use or how to do multiple cycles with a bucket of soapy water. I've tried to detail some of the suggestions below, but that seems like a big missing piece. Suggested Uses: * Bathtub: There is a lot of water in the tank, which can cause problems if it tips over. Therefore, it can be ideal to carry out the entire procedure in a bathtub, especially in an apartment. * Soak - If you have time, soak clothes for 4-8 hours (overnight). Note that eco-friendly soap smells bad after 14 hours because the whole point of eco-friendly soap is that it breaks down once it goes down the drain. This way clothes will be much cleaner and you will get rid of many stubborn odors/stains. You can use this in combination with 1/2 cup of bleach, vinegar or baking soda (see bleach warning below). including eye protection and smooth cycling. I would recommend regular bleach (sometimes listed as "color safe") over chlorine bleach. * Soap Consumption: I've used the following with good success: HE eco-friendly soap, 1/2 of the first "small batch" mark. * Multi-cycle wash: The instructions are for a single wash followed by a rinse, but you can save LOTS of water and soap by using the same soapy water multiple times to wash many clothes. After the first load, take out the wet + soaped clothes, put them in a bucket or tub, adding a little more water + soap each time to make sure the basket is covered. I've made this a dozen times with no problems, reusing the soapy water 3 times on two occasions. * Drain: You can lift the bucket out of the water and rotate it slightly so that it is above the water for easier draining. After that, you can empty the clothes into the bottom of the bucket and press the empty basket to pour out more water. If you already know how to wring your clothes, you can skip this step.* Follow the instructions x2. As a precaution, I'm doubling the recommended lift-slide cycles and cycles, simply because I don't want to mess around. with a slow drying process for clothes that are still dirty/smelly. Issues* Floating Basket: When the basket rises to the surface of the water, remove the lid and press down on all clothing items to release all air. Or place a bucket on top and add something heavy to counterbalance it.* Persistent Musty Smell: Clothes with a musty odor can be soaked longer and have more up-and-down cycles. I also like to add baking soda (add to a full container of water before each dress). I did about 20 minutes and 20 push up cycles and it was effective.
