Evaluation of the cooling pad after 11 months of use

I bought the cooling pad in February 2016, so I've been using it for 11 months. The device pulls air down through the laptop and out both sides. My HP laptop is 15.7 inches and works well for a pad. A 17 inch laptop will protrude slightly over the edges. My usage is for heavy business use, not gaming. I understand that gaming computers have a lot more waste heat, so I can't speak to that operating environment. For my use, the pillow does an excellent job of keeping my laptop cool. After about 10 months of use, I noticed additional noise coming from the pad, especially when restarting the laptop after it had been turned off for several hours. As an engineer, I had to investigate. (I was concerned that the fan hub might fail, which would mean the cooling pad would soon leak.) The investigation required disassembly of the stand, i. H. Remove four rubber feet, 6 screws and an extended metal mesh covering the cooling pad. fans. My tools were a flashlight, a Phillips head screwdriver, a small flat head screwdriver, cotton swabs, a cleaning cloth and a can of compressed air. I found a noticeable accumulation of hair on the leading edges of the fan blades, as well as dust on the remaining blades. After a thorough cleaning and reassembly, the pad was as quiet as the first day I used it. It looks like the tufts of hair unbalanced the small fans and caused the distinct vibrations I heard. Hair buildup on the leading edges of fan blades is a common problem with portable fans used in the home. I also have four cats. Disassembly and assembly were quite easy. The only negative I found was the way the extended metal shield was secured in the body of the cooling pad. Essentially, the extended screen's short protrusions were used as protrusions, which were then folded into the body. I would imagine that these protrusions could eventually break in future cleaning jobs due to the cold deformation of the thin metal screen. This is a very minor issue that should only be addressed by a technician and will not affect the stand's ability to perform its function. Given the circumstances described above, I find this to be a very acceptable cooling pad for the money.
