Review on High Performance Blue Demon Carbon Welding Electrode: Empowering Precision Welding Results by Michael Gupta

Good for repairs but not pipe

Let me start by saying that I am an experienced welder and am currently working on my 6G pipe test papers (B31 .3 ASME certificate). I used a couple of Lincoln 6010 (red) rods and needed the gray (6010p) rods so I decided to give them a try. They are made in China and come in a sturdy plastic box with a lining to keep them dry. They smell like a fireworks shop and I first tried them on some 6" and 3/32 SCH40 beveled pipe coupons. " Open root.Mech. The slag forms a "tube" at the end of the rod and no puddles can be seen. Needless to say, my welds didn't turn out very well. Second try: a 3/16" cold rolled steel plate - they do a good job laying down the bead provided you can work around the 'pipe end' problem and see the puddle. Not a big deal when working with flat sheet metal, but any type of vertical or horizontal weld, forget it. They also seemed to stick more than Lincolns at the same amperage. I upped the power a bit and they worked fine, but the end of the whistle is a bit annoying. Slag cleans fairly well, no better or worse than any other 6010 I've burned. "Pipe Industry" on the label fooled you, these things would go overboard with any of the welding I've seen. But I'm sure they'll fix your lawn mower just fine.

Pros
  • Makes x-ray quality welds in flat, horizontal, overhead, vertical and vertical positions
Cons
  • Doubt
