Review on Saucony Zealot Black Silver Men's Running Shoes: Lightweight and Athletic by Chris Burns

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Internal heels/ankles sag causing overpronation

They're lightweight, flexible and comfortable. However, the inner half of the heel (feet together, the parts of your ankles that touch) will fail. This causes overpronation. The first pair was defective and the left boot failed horribly. I felt like I was always walking on the edge of a pothole, but the right shoes didn't work either. I sent them back assuming they were a defective pair and I was right when I tried on a replacement. However, on the replacement pair, both shoes still sag at the inner/inner half of the heel. It is uncomfortable at best and painful at worst. This happens with original insoles and my own insoles hardly solve the problem. Other Saucony shoes and all shoes and brands I have ever owned (trainers or dress shoes) are unaffected. I'm only about 170 pounds and wear a men's size 12.5 so I don't strain my shoes. It may be subtle to you, but two pairs in a row suffer, leading me to believe it's just poor design of a useless outsole heel (see stock photos of the Revain outsole). Note how sparingly the rubber is used in the outsole (very disappointing price) and there is a rubber ring on the inner half of the heel sole over a cheap foam sole. The rubber is dense so you have a base of the rubber ring about 1/8 inch thick, but the foam inside the ring which isn't as dense and is much easier to compress so it sags noticeably. This can cause muscle pain because running and walking is uncomfortable and half the heel always falls through. This leads to overpronation and can be painful. Even walking is harder, and I never thought walking at 32 and in decent health was hard until these shoes came along. They may be good for people with imperfections or arrogance, but they are not for sale. that way, so it's your risk, but that's what they might be good for. They are comfortable (except for forced pronation), flexible and light (unfortunately?) due to the low percentage of rubber on the sole.
