My last pair of shoes had/has three Velcro straps per boot and they didn't fit my front as well as they could. I first discovered that Giro cycling shoes – at least in this style – are narrower than regular D-width boots from other manufacturers when I tried on the Trans Boa version at my local performance bike shop. The peculiarity of the PB version is that they are more like a polymer sole than the Easton 70 carbon and glass sole. The Giro's narrower fit fits my feet perfectly and is lighter than my old shoes. One of the things I also wanted to get rid of was the velcro straps that do most of the holding work. The velcro seems to give a little on long trips and will certainly wear out with each use. The advantage of the Boa system, if I understand correctly, is that the parts are interchangeable. The bottom velcro doesn't take much of the load/pressure so I don't mind having a velcro on the front.
