The pattern on these plastic sheets goes one direction, not the other, although it appears omnidirectional. The only time it matters is when you're piecing leaves together and trying to achieve a consistent look, like I did. Light hits the micro-ribs and creates a different shadow quality/reflection depending on the orientation of the sheet. I tried to take a picture, one piece will look a little "wetter" and the other will look drier and darker. If you then go from a different angle, of course the look will change but never match.
