PSA: Meant to be used KNEELING!

This has been a great camp axe for us, nice upgrade from a standard hatchet, you get a way better and more powerful swing with this without adding a lot of weight. Its important to note that this type of axe is meant to be used from a KNEELING position. Its not safe to swing a short axe (3/4 or hatchet) from a standing position, if you miss or over-swing through your target you can swing it directly into your legs and find out how devastatingly effective these blades really are on flesh. a major leg or foot wound and you can seriously bleed out very quickly and die, so take it seriously and give the tool the respect it deserves. Consider buying a pack of major trauma bandages to keep handy wherever you may be using this and in your car (search for "israeli bandage", familiarize yourself with how to use them BEFORE you need them!)If you swing this while kneeling and miss/glance off/swing through your target too hard then the head should hit the ground/dirt instead of swinging into you. You might feel silly but this is seriously the way its supposed to be used. You don't usually have a tall chopping block (or any chopping block) anyways when making kindling at a campsite. The fit and finish of this seems good for its price point and the intermittent (camping) uses we have for it. I like that its a good length it can be attached to a backpack. The one not-good thing is that the blade guard is, as others have said, sub-par. You should get some leather and craft a quality "holster" for the head ideally.Don't let kids play with axes and hatchets. It is not a toy. Its not for throwing. Its far more dangerous than it looks, dull or sharp, but its an awesome tool when used and respected properly.

Pros
  • I found the 2.2 lbs weight a bit too light. Otherwise it's a really good splitting axe.
Cons
  • The hatchet may not perform as well as larger, more heavy-duty axes
