Not Really a Grafting Knife

This isn't a real grafting knife; a true grafting knife has one side of the blade sharpened and one side flat; this also means that a proper grafting knife is either right- or left- handed, since it only cuts one way. These blades are sharpened on both sides. Bummer. I had hoped they would include both a right and left handed blade!

Pros
  • Good product for all level of grafting experience
Cons
  • The included plant labels may not be durable and may fade or fall off after exposure to sunlight and moisture

Nothing like a sharp pair of shears

These are a great, ergonomic pair of anvil shears, the only issue I have is that the lock is difficult to engage/disengage. My big, fat fingers don't fit into the small space where the lock is, so I have to find a makeshift tool to lock and unlock the latch, and even then I find the motion to unlock is a bit stubborn or finicky. But, I got them to cut and they do that well. My old pair didn't lock at all anymore, so this is an improvement, or I can just not lock them and they are the same, but…

Pros
  • Sharp and well made. Great for grafting plants
Cons
  • Crack in handle

Not quite as pictured.

It isn't the knife pictured. It doesn't look quite as nice. It doesn't have the etched logo and doesn't look like stainless steel.Much more likely to be a carbon steel. The box it is housed in still shows the one in the photos, and even has a disclaimer saying to be careful because of the single bevel edge on the grafting blade. The blade is double beveled on both, and not at all sharp enough to cut wood to graft.A little odd, but maybe still okay. They really should update the pictures to avoid…

Pros
  • Great value. The overall product quality is very good. Just wish the knife can be sharper.
Cons
  • These are not sharp wasted my money

They work as expected.

These pruning sheers fit comfortably in my hand. I'm able to manipulate with one hand and make quick work with them. They're light weight and sturdy I believe they will last a good while with proper care. The only thing I would have liked better is if they could open up a bit wider to get around thicker branches. These are great for branches that are not much more than an inch in diameter.

Pros
  • Works well feels nice and sturdy. Came very sharp. will change review if anything happens.
Cons
  • The grafting tape may not stretch enough to provide adequate support to the graft

It prunes as expected.

I have been using these shears over the past two weeks for cuttings small branches (1/4 inch), rose stems, and plant stems. In each case, the shears was able to easily cut thru these. Shears was comfortable to hold, no extra force needed to cut thru things, and most important, no blisters/rashes after using the shears.Just one item. When cutting rose stems in which the stems dare a bit moist, I did not get clean cut and/or it took me a second attempt the finish the cut. But this problem only…

Pros
  • Knife was not as sharp as stated, sharpened it,and it was ok.Good kit for grafting.
Cons
  • The knife may be too sharp and dangerous to use, especially for inexperienced gardeners

Clean Before Using good for me

The Naye Pruning Shears are a nice little set of shears for thin branches and stems. I am disregarding the fact that these are supposed to be ratcheting shears because the blade thickness tells me that just isn't going to work out well. For trimming ordinary house plants and bedding plants, these are perfect. I did trim some thinner diameter tree branches out of curiosity and they did fine. However, I would definitely not get these with the idea of using them exclusively for yours trees. You'd…

Pros
  • Pleasantly surprised! Great knife! Super clean cuts!
Cons
  • The knife may be too bulky for some users to handle comfortably

Works very well for a manual pruner.

First thing I noticed is that the pruner is a painted grey. I originally thought it was chrome from a quick glance at the pictures on Revain. Upon looking at the pictures on Revain more carefully, I could tell it is not chrome. With that said, it is made of metal. It's very light weight and comfortable to grip. This is perfect for long pruning sessions. The blades are sharp and performed well on green limbs and branches. It also performed pretty well on harder brown limbs and branches. The best

Pros
  • Muy buena calidad
Cons
  • The grafting tape may not provide adequate support and may not hold the graft in place

It's good value, tape is hard to work with

These tools are a good value if you're getting into grafting and don't want to spend a fortune. If I could do it again, I would've paid more for better parafilm tape. This stuff sticks to itself really tight and gets tangled very easily, making it hard to do a nice tight wrap around a stem. Knife was very nice and sharp out of the box though.I got a successful citrus graft using this kit! (as well as several unsuccessful grafts, but I blame my own lack of grafting experience for those, not the…

Pros
  • Not easy to use.
Cons
  • The process of grafting may require a lot of time and patience, which may discourage some gardeners

A bit puzzled by knife

A couple of things puzzle me about this knife.1. First, the picture shows the NAYE brand on the blade(s), but the knife I got doesn't. Did I get the actual product? Inquiring minds want to know.2. All grafting knive descriptions I see talk about bevel on only one side of the blade edge. This one is bi-beveled (on both sides). [Unlike the one pictured in my second picture]3. The blade isn't terribly thin, so beware that for wedge-receptor cuts you're going to be splitting the wood quite a bit.4.

Pros
  • Great product
Cons
  • The kit may not include all of the necessary tools for successful grafting

Wanted this to work but not all wishes come true

I'm new to grafting and so was happy to find a "complete" package. However, there were real problems. The knife looks great but is simply dull right out of the box. Maybe it could cut butter, maybe not. The "grafting tape" is just like a long thin strip of saran wrap. Parafilm tape is MUCH easier to use and conforms to the shape of the scion wood; this saran-ish tape tends to curl on itself and I fear will girdle the scion rather than stretching with it. I cannot recommend this product as…

Pros
  • Given as a Christmas gift hope he will enjoy them!
Cons
  • Grafting may not be necessary or useful for all types of plants

Quality product! good for me

Purchased for my mother-in-law, she was grafting avocado tree buds; she's hard to please still complained 😂 when I said I will use for our garden; she didn't want to give the kit back.

Pros
  • Don’t keep a good sharp .
Cons
  • The second blade makes it Very uncomfortable to handle.

Revainrating 4 out of 5

good knife in my review

The knife appears to be of good quality although there are some imperfections in the handle. Also the grafting tape seems like plastic rather than a wax based product.

Pros
  • Like the way it feels in my hand and I feel comfortable about my grafting this year
Cons
  • The process of grafting may require precision and attention to detail, which may be challenging for some gardeners

Both blades are very dull out the box even for a tiny twig, the Hawkbill Blade doesn't have the engraved stainless steel as shown in their picture descriptions and blades are very difficult to open and close which is very dangerous. Also, they should add in the description that this is a double-beveled edge blade. Retuned

Pros
  • Just what I wanted
Cons
  • The plant labels may be too small to write all necessary information on

Easy to use best in my review

I bought these for my little garden area. I have limited strength in my hands due to a medical condition so I have a hard time using pruners. These have worked really well and they are very versatile. They are sharp enough to clip herbs or small plants. The ratchet part allows me to cut thicker branches as well.

Pros
  • Great set for grafting.
Cons
  • The knife may be too heavy for some users to handle comfortably

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Very difficult to get a good sharp edge

This knife is made with a very narrow, double bevelled edge which makes it very difficult to sharpen properly. To get the single bevel so important to a grafting knife you would have to bring one side, or the other, down to the point that there is no secondary bevel and then on the other side bring the bevel up the blade maybe a 16th of an inch or so. Basically, you are looking for a chisel edge, on your chosen side. It would also, in the future need to be sharpened like a chisel.on the bevel…

Pros
  • It arrived just as advertised on the ad
Cons
  • The knife may be difficult to clean and maintain, leading to reduced effectiveness over time

The perfect pruning and grafting knife.

Very impressed with the quality and sturdiness of the pruning and grafting knife. The knife is being used for air laying plants and it works perfectly. Will be ordering an additional knife to give as a gift.

Pros
  • Great just as shown, and great for grafting Plumeria!
Cons
  • Grafting may be a complicated process that requires specialized knowledge and training

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Not as nice as the photo, cuts fine.

These were a bit disappointing to receive because the photo makes them look shiny and sleek and much nicer than they are. The finish on them also gives your hand a strange smell after your handle them. That aside, I used them to trim dead flowers and cut down an over 1/2” maple sapling just fine. The ratcheting may take a minute to get used to but I think it’s great. This is the style that has one blade that chops down into a dock, not the scissor-like kind that has two blades. These were $22…

Pros
  • Came just like it said. Great knife.
Cons
  • The kit may not include instructions for users to follow, resulting in confusion and failed grafts

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Very cheap knife for my opinion

The blade is beveled on both sides at about a 30 degree bevel. Not sharp at all. If people are saying their knife is sharp, they apparently don't know what sharp is. Had to take both my blades and remove one bevel on a large grinder, so it is a flat piece is steel from back edge of blade to the cutting edge. Polished on a 900 grit stone. Now it is sharp enough to shave with.

Pros
  • Great product !
Cons
  • The knife may be too big to use effectively on small plants

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Not stainless steel!

This was stated to be stainless steel. It is not, it is carbon steel & will rust. SS is non- magnetic, these are magnetic. It is sharp but it will rust. Returned.

Pros
  • Love the knife - cheap labels however
Cons
  • The plant labels may not be environmentally friendly, contributing to waste and pollution

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Extremely sharp best in my review

This knife is extremely extremely sharp. I cut myself twice the same day while grafting. I'm afraid to use it. I cut a good chunk of my finger. Blood was everywhere. I would wear cut free gloves for this knife. This is not a joke. Just be extremely careful with this.

Pros
  • Very good knife, just right for the job.
Cons
  • The plant labels may not be easily customizable, limiting their usefulness for some gardeners
