Review on πŸ“± SCOSCHE MAGDMB MagicMount Magnetic Mount Holder for Mobile Devices in Convenient Packaging, Black by Trae Joubert

Revainrating 4 out of 5

3 replacements and a lot of trial and error later I finally got it and I love it! READ THIS FIRST!

I did a lot of research before buying a dash mount for my iPhone 6 (well actually I didn't buy it but I added it to my Revain wish list for my sister to buy me for Christmas , so how she drew my name). I drive a brand new Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring Edition with a nice black leather interior. It's a sexy car and I wanted something that matched the look of my car, wasn't too big or bulky and didn't ruin the clean lines of the dash and console. I loved this idea and was super excited to get my hands on it for Christmas and try it out! Unfortunately, it wasn't quite what I originally hoped for. let me explain. I chose the perfect spot to place it on the dashboard which is a very smooth but somewhat textured (to make it look like leather) hard rubber surface (see photo). It says "Applyable to textured surfaces" right on the box, so I figured it wouldn't be a problem as this surface is relatively flat and lightly textured. I followed the instructions verbatim, but the mount didn't adhere well enough to the dash to support its own weight for 10 seconds, let alone the weight of my phone! It fell down right away. I tried again to hold it for about 3 minutes this time and still didn't even hold it for 2 seconds. I wrote to the company and they sent me a replacement mount to try. When it arrived I tried again and again followed the instructions in the email. After pressing firmly for a few minutes, I left the mount alone for several hours before attempting to place my phone on it. When I got back to my car I was happy to see that it was still stuck! I put on my cell phone and drove home from work. However, within 15 minutes (and a few speed bumps and potholes later) it was falling off. :( I was officially frustrated at this point but decided to stick it to a hard and totally smooth plastic surface just below where I had previously attached it and it stuck pretty well and held my phone but because I had already taped it to another surface it lost some of its stickiness and wouldn't stick forever so I wrote to the company AGAIN to explain my problem and they sent me a third mount to try. This time I went straight for this hard smooth plastic surface (although I didn't want to put it there as it blocks one of the vents a bit) and it's AWESOME! It works like a dream and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it! I think really that it's the perfect mounting system for phones and tablets but my goodness what a PAIN to this point! And their promise that it's on strukturi would stick to any surface turned out to be very untrue to me. and if I had taped it to that hard plastic surface from the start I would definitely give it 5 stars! Here's what I would have liked to know from the start, but learned through a lot of trial and error: - If you mount it on a vertical surface (see my photos), it should really be absolutely smooth. I wish there was more information in the instructions about which magnetic plate to use for which devices. I started by putting a large slab on my iPhone 6 but it wasn't necessary. The tiny plate has more than enough magnetic force to keep the iPhone 6 in its slim design even when plugged in. Whilst this is advertised as ready to use I STRONGLY recommend that you stick it on as instructed and then WAIT ONE NIGHT before allowing it. withstand weight. Based on several tests I have come to the conclusion that the best position for the metal plate is on the bottom of the phone (see photo) with the long horizontal side. I've tried it in the middle and with the long side of the board pointing straight up and down and I like how it fits a lot better. Mine is taped to the back of my clear plastic case. Customer service was very helpful and fast, so if for some reason this doesn't work for you, don't give up and write a bad review before talking to them about it because I promise, once it works I like it! Other things I love about it: - Sleek, sexy, minimalist design - STRONG magnets, but not so strong that you have a hard time removing the device with one hand - The options it gives you are endless degrees of rotation! I like! - The magnetic plate that attaches to the device is SO THIN I hardly notice it. It doesn't get in the way when you plug it in and out of pockets, purses, backpacks, etc. and it doesn't look downright nasty. In summary, I think this mount is probably the best dashboard mount, unfortunately it didn't quite live up to its hype for me. I was going to give it 3 stars but decided to give it 4 because the customer service was so great and because in the end, even after all the headaches and frustrations, I really, really love it! I hope this helps someone else in the market! I did NOT receive this item for free or at a discount.
