I don't know what the hell everyone else is complaining about. I've had this scanner for over two years now and the only issue I've had is that I now have to shake the cord to keep the power going. That's probably because I've used this thing so damn often. I scanned hundreds of images which came out extremely sharp and clear and used TextBridge (OCR) software to scan book chapters into Word. The software that comes with this Visioneer 8900 is definitely not intuitive, but I'm fine with it because I use Corel to edit all my photos. All it takes is a little patience the first time you learn how to adjust the quality and color of your scan. After that, everything should be in one breath. One downside is that this scanner first came out three years ago so is a bit bulky and thinner and slimmer models are now available. But if you can pick up a used one for around $30-$40, it's definitely worth it.
