One star because there is nothing less to give.

This is by far the biggest junk I have ever had the misfortune to buy. If everything Visioneer does is like this, they deserve to be out of business. I can't believe they are enforcing this kind of junk and can do without it. I will never buy a product labeled "Visioneer" again. Period. This scanner was a HUGE waste of money, not to mention a very good source of frustration. It ran long enough to scan about 5 items, but none of them consistently. It will scan one, and if you're lucky you might…

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Very expensive

The scanner is great for the price!

I don't know what the hell everyone else is complaining about. I've had this scanner for over two years now and the only issue I've had is that I now have to shake the cord to keep the power going. That's probably because I've used this thing so damn often. I scanned hundreds of images which came out extremely sharp and clear and used TextBridge (OCR) software to scan book chapters into Word. The software that comes with this Visioneer 8900 is definitely not intuitive, but I'm fine with it…

I used to love the Visioneer :(

I've been demoing Visioneer scanners at a "computer shop" for 3 years and have always been impressed with their speed, quality and price. I've been happy Bought my own Visioneer 8900. as I liked the shortcuts, the quality and the price The installation was quick and easy and I started scanning straight away I did about 5 scans of good quality and everything was fine I have the Scanner not used for a few months (it was turned off) so i started it again and i got these ugly green lines all over…

  • Pleasant to use

Mixed results on scanners and accessories

I bought it refurbished and it's good too because I overlooked the locking issue that a lot of people mentioned. The scanner worked decently initially when I used it on Windows 98, sometimes I had to struggle to get it to work properly, but it usually worked. Then, when I upgraded to XP Pro SP2, it was easy to install. . But every once in a while, and with increasing frequency, their XP driver crashes (usually in the middle of a scan) and I have to constantly reinstall the driver to get my…

  • Handsfree kit

A small design flaw

This is a great scanner for the money. Unfortunately, the designers made a small mistake, which I corrected. It took care of the "scanner blocked" issue. now i love it The software is great, the ergonomics are great and it's FAST! The fix is very simple and requires no electronics knowledge. Added 9/12/04 So many people emailed me regarding the fix so I thought I'd add it here. Unfortunately the fix didn't work for most of those who emailed me. My scanner works very well with Win98SE. I suspect

Pros
  • Free for educational purposes
Cons
  • Not sure

For about $100 I got a Visioneer One Touch 8900 USB flatbed scanner that works on my old computer many years and satisfied with his work. My operating system is Windows ME (yes, some of ours still exist) and I used the PaperPort Twain software that came with the scanner. Although it takes some getting used to and you may have to repeat the scan several times, by then you'll know what you're doing without making any more mistakes, and the results you'll get are mostly acceptable, sometimes just…

  • Best in its niche
