This is a great scanner for the money. Unfortunately, the designers made a small mistake, which I corrected. It took care of the "scanner blocked" issue. now i love it The software is great, the ergonomics are great and it's FAST! The fix is very simple and requires no electronics knowledge. Added 9/12/04 So many people emailed me regarding the fix so I thought I'd add it here. Unfortunately the fix didn't work for most of those who emailed me. My scanner works very well with Win98SE. I suspect that many of those having problems have problems with some aspect of their software/OS. I often format and reinstall my operating system when my machines get sluggish. In my humble opinion, reformatting is a must, especially when plugged in. It's like a garage, it needs cleaning from time to time. I wash under high pressure. :-) My repair is free, so don't sue me: Remove the two screws on the left under the rubber stopper. #1 Phillips, need a thin screwdriver.2. Turn the cover with glass up and to the right and pull the hooks out of the loops. Lay on its side.3. Remove the locking button from the base by pinching the folded ends and pushing out of the hole.4. Grind or grind the tabs sticking out of the bottom of the case. The scanner carriage blocks them.5. Make sure the cables leading to the front controls are not pinched so badly that they could break.6. Clean the glass, lubricate the rails with molybdenum grease and reassemble without seizing. I did this. It worked great. Jim A
