Review on πŸ’‘ Sylvania 9005 SilverStar Ultra Halogen Headlight Bulbs - High Performance Automotive Lighting (Pack of 2) by Zachary Caldwell

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Big improvement. . .

These bulbs are a direct replacement for the high beam on my 2008 GMC Sierra (Denali) and they work great. I've always been a bit disappointed with the performance of the stock headlights. I've been looking for a replacement (9005) for high beam (and low beam, but that's another review) for a few months. I've recently had cars with xenon headlights and wanted something comparable in terms of brightness and visibility on the road. The standard headlights, while workable, are not at the level I wanted. Some other aftermarket bulbs I've tried have also been disappointing, even more so than OEM bulbs. So I decided to try these. I'm glad I have them now. The packaging says it can be up to 50% better than existing lightbulbs. In my unscientific opinion, I can see at least a 30 percent improvement, if not more. The best thing I have is the fact that the garage attached to my house is down the alley behind my house and my neighbors' houses. With standard bulbs I could barely see my garage door about 5 garages away when turning down an alley at night. The light just didn't travel far enough. Now I not only see the door of my garage, but also the three who passed it in the same alley. In addition, the light is whiter than the yellow light of standard halogen lamps (although still slightly yellowish), so the lamp is not only brighter, but also looks more natural. Mind you, that's not the brightness or whiteness of a xenon headlamp, but it comes close without having to shell out hundreds of dollars to replace an entire headlamp with an HID model, if they even exist for your application. The only minor downside is that the mounting surface on the back of the lamp that screws into the socket is a little different than standard lamps and the many bad replacements I've tried. This made it slightly more difficult to correctly fit new bulbs into the sockets, although not by much. You may have to work with it a bit. I'm glad I found her and cannot recommend her highly enough. Tip: Wear some sort of clean gloves when installing a headlight bulb. These lamps get very hot when switched on, and sebum that gets on the lamp (e.g. fingerprints) will cause uneven heating and cooling of the housing and will drastically reduce lamp life.
