Review on Prothane 19 1405 Red Jack Pad by Domonic Roberts

Revainrating 1 out of 5

They used to be great, but now they're outdated and inferior.

I've had one of these for a few years and loved it so I ordered another for my new second floor jack but Prothane have made this one very very cheap since I bought the first one. The old one (the one on the left in the two pictures below) had a hard polypropylene backing that gave way towards the top, making it very durable and crush resistant. The new one is literally plate thin and doesn't have the hard polypropylene backing of the old one. It deforms and cracks as soon as the car's weight falls on it. You can see it in my picture above (the pad on the right is new, with ridges from the fact that I jacked the car once). Now it's just cheap junk. Look at my photos to see the difference between the original good upholstery (on the left of both photos) and the cheap upholstery they are selling now (on the right of both photos): you can see that the top looks the same, but on the back you can see that the new pad has NO reinforcement material. It's so floppy you can bend it with your bare hands! I expected more from Protan. It is NOT RECOMMENDED as it will not last long and is not strong enough to safely lift the car.

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • Big and bulky
