Everything is fine, the engine ran in the opposite direction.
Cool machine, works right out of the box. After a few tattoos I decided to take it apart and check it out. The spring didn't last very long so good luck trying to find a suitable .109 inch or 2.7mm OD spring. I also found that the motor was soldered to the wrong pins. Positive was negative so the machine worked. back all the time (at least 40 hours). The motor shaft should rotate counter-clockwise when viewed from the front, if not just change the power. For $45 it was a good learning experience. I think I'll stick with direct drives as they have fewer parts, no spring.
