Update July 2015: Charging doesn't last. Strap detached after 6 months

***Updated July 2015***. The strap was repaired by Timex with just a few bucks to pay for shipping the watch back - all fine. The problem is that the watch doesn't hold a charge. I can fully charge the watch and by the time I get a GPS fix the charge drops to 50 or 40%. I removed all memory to see if that helps - doesn't help. I can barely run a decent amount before the charge runs out and the watch needs a full charge to start each time. Pretty frustrating - and another indication that what looked like a cheap purchase turns out to be just an intermediary before purchasing something more permanent and tried and tested. I thought it would be a great, cheaper alternative to the expensive Garmin options I've had in the past. which didn't work properly. And I was very happy with the watch when I received it - the buttons seem to work better than the touch bezel as I had suspected and the functions were easy to understand and very functional. The watch was comfortable to wear and worked perfectly. GPS generally found a signal for a few minutes of stillness. After 4 months of regular use for running (3 times a week) one of the buttons started to stick. It wasn't a big problem as it still worked but didn't reappear after pressing. After a few months, the top strap detached from the watch causing the watch to fall to the ground after one run. At first I thought I could just reattach the strap and snap it in place, but upon closer inspection it came loose and wouldn't reattach. The watch still works - I just can't wear it. The strap attachment on the watch is flimsy and feels like a cheap design/construction solution. I have only worn one watch for running so far and not for general use. It seems poorly designed to deal with the sweat/rain/expanding forearms that all runners experience on a regular basis. My search for an inexpensive functional running watch begins again.

Pros
  • Square GPS Watch Thin Sport Strap
Cons
  • Flimsy
