Review on Creative Labs Sound Blaster Play! 3 External USB Sound Adapter - Compatible with Windows and Mac - Plug and Play (No Drivers Needed) - Enhanced 24-Bit 96Khz Playback Upgrade by Agata Zimka Semeniuk ᠌

Revainrating 3 out of 5

There are pluses and minuses, think before you buy.

I bought it more like the same universal adapter for any headset, and not a sound enhancer. It is for this reason that play 3, and not 4 (there is exactly one 4pin connector in that one) or, say, G1 (also one). It more or less copes with this, but . Statics. Damn static. It looks like this: you listen to music on headphones from your phone, or you are conferencing. Everything is awesome. Then you are shocked in the ear and the computer loses the sound system. After 20 seconds, you start the driver, and he sees it again - you conference further, after 15 minutes it again shocks and the cycle repeats. It seems that there is a ground in the socket, but apparently it is somehow crooked. The battery is far away. This is probably not a problem for this instance, as there were exactly the same problems with the xonar - as a result, I changed the extension cord, the system unit (entirely to a new one) and the sound from the internal to the external, hoping that it would solve the problem - it did not. There are no such problems at home with a poppy, although there is no grounding in the outlet. Draw your own conclusions.

Pros
  • 1. Works on both mac and windows 2. You can plug in both 2x3.5 jack and 4pin headsets - the microphone will work in both cases (for some reason, you can just find the necessary adapter on sale) 3. The sound gets louder 4. There is a built-in headphone amplifier, with multiple presets 5. Compactness - took and carried away
Cons
  • I compare with the previous asus xonar dg. - This one doesn't have virtual surround sound (local surround unfortunately can't be compared with dolby virtual surround on xonar; at a comparable price). - On windows without the sound itself, drivers are not installed at all, they are installed on a poppy, but until you connect it, you can't see the settings. - ASIO? No, haven't heard. Xonar has it. - Speakers - maximum stereo (or 2.1). Again, xonar could do it up to 5.1 (I don’t even remember about optics anymore).
