The Crucial X6 4TB drive is not suitable for those who want to fill the drive with large files, e.g. for those who work with video/audio for example. . It uses "dynamic cache", which means that the size of the write cache decreases as the disk fills up. This is an SLC write cache capable of copying files at 800MB/s. The true write speed of the QLC drive is around 80MB/s - slower than most old-school spinning hard drives. When the drive is new and empty, the SLC write cache size is approximately

Very hot - tested on my Samsung Note20

I managed to transfer about 3 gigabytes from the Samsung Galaxy Note20 Ultra's internal storage in less than 10 seconds. I then transferred about 30GB of data from the SanDisk 512GB Extreme microSDXC that was in my Samsung Note20 in about 6 minutes. The case heats up during data transfer. Transfer speed is high for most apps to quickly backup your smartphone in minutes and play videos stored on external drive for watching on the go without overloading your phone's storage. The case is very…

Great for local backups

Bought a disc for each of our home computers. Use with Acronis software for bootable media and backups. Small, light and easy to store in our fireproof safe between regular backups. Tried cloud and home network systems for backups, but tired of slowness and occasional connectivity issues. The only downside to the drive, in my opinion, is that it's slippery. It would be very easy to slip in and out of a jean pocket, but that's not how we use them. Also, there is no way to attach a string or…

  • Same as everything before

I usually buy Samsung external SSDs, internal versions, T5 and now T7 (I love T7!) with true USB 3.2 Gen speeds. I have the Crucial since they 4 TB and advertised as 800 MB read/write speeds over USB 3.2 Gen speed tiers. I have a read/write speed of 80-100 MB. Tried with the included cable, various certified Thunderbolt 3 cables, and various Macs. All of them, terrible speeds. I was wondering why it took HOURS to copy 1.8TB from an ultra-fast SSD to Crucial. In short, after several hours of…

QLC Flash External SSDs

As at least one other reviewer has noted, the under 4TB X6 uses QLC flash. While copying small files, working with videos, or transferring large files one at a time is fast, you can achieve speeds compatible with a spinning hard drive. While Crucial's marketing department brags about how fast they can write big texts, the legal department hides behind the words "as soon as possible" and similar small print nonsense. Welcome to the modern world of data storage. USB specifications that cannot be…

It's not NVME, but it's faster than hard drives.

First off, the speed of this drive cannot compare to that of an NVME USB based SSD. The X6 series is based on SATA technology, so expect the fastest SATA SSD speeds. I got 4TB for a really good price on World Backup Day, almost as much as an internal SATA SSD. Order placed in the morning, CD received on my doorstep in the afternoon, with fast free same day shipping from Revain. When I picked up the Revain bubble wrap I thought it was empty. This drive is really small, you pay a lot of money…

Disappointing Best in Computers & Accessories

Crucial X6 4TB Portable Hard Drive: I copied files from my desktop PC to the Crucial X6 4TB hard drive, about 1.5TB in total. Initially, the speed was good, but eventually the copying speed dropped and is actually lower than that of a standard HDD drive. The first third of the task ran at a reasonable speed of around 250MB per second, and then for reasons I don't understand it drops sharply to a low speed of 50MB per second and stays there until all the files have been copied . Speed was ok…
