Review on Panasonic LUMIX G Leica DG SUMMILUX Lens 15MM F1.7 ASPH: Professional MIRRORLESS Micro Four Thirds H-X015 (USA Black) by A Eh Khung ᠌

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Not a bad buy, well worth the money.

The sharpest wide angle lens I've ever seen. in the micro 4/3 system. Starting from hole 2.8 sharp from edge to edge. In fact, already at 2.5 the lens is very good. On hole 4.0, sharpness is impeccable from corner to corner. The famous pancake 20/1.7 is resting. Contrast and color are impeccable. Pleasant artistic "bokeh" when you shoot an object close-up from a short distance and in an open hole. Everything is wonderful, except for the distortion, which is indecently high for a Hi End class lens. However, for the landscape it does not matter. But when shooting interiors and architecture, music is the best. When shooting in JPEG, the camera itself corrects 90% of the distortion automatically. Also, all or almost all RAW converters are automatically corrected, however, Rawtherapee and C1 do not understand the built-in distortion profile of this lens in the RAW file and can only be corrected there with pens by eye. And this is not gud. On Olympus cameras, aperture control works only in a modern electronic way, clicks resp. disk in this case is pure decoration.

Pros
  • The highest optical characteristics (except for distortion), nice design, lens hood included. Mechanical "retro diaphragm" for owners of Panasonic cameras.
Cons
  • The distortion (barrel) is too big. And the price too.
