Another review published an experiment comparing the heat loss of about 8 different mugs. This one was the winner, probably because of the insulated lid. I have matched this mug with an insulated plastic mug that is dishwasher and microwave safe (also got great reviews) as I prefer not to hand wash the mug. So I bought both and ran a similar heat loss experiment. After 30 minutes, this cup only dropped 10 degrees while the plastic cup dropped 29 degrees. After an hour, this cup was 16 degrees lower than the plastic cup, which was 47 degrees. Both tests were carried out with the drinking cap open. I have found this mug keeps my drink so hot that after making coffee/tea I have to open the lid fully for over 10 minutes to warm it to a comfortable drinking temperature and it stays quite hot for an hour. It's super easy to clean - no weird crevices or tight spots (I use a baby bottle brush which makes cleaning a breeze). The 12 ounce mug is the perfect size for me and the handle is a nice shape and size. The drinking spout is also practical for drinking. I really like this mug and recommend it to everyone. My only minor complaint is that you can't take your last small sip from the mug without removing the lid completely, but that really doesn't matter much.
