My first pasta machine was a more traditional, hand-operated one, which is very similar to this one, so I thought I'd like this one better, but I'm not comparing a manual coiler to this electric one. I love making my own pasta, and as a Christmas present I bought an electric pasta maker last year - a larger kind that looks more like a meat grinder, if that makes sense. I've "mastered" my electric pasta maker since then and this electric one doesn't compare. Considering the cost of this - my other was slightly cheaper - I'm disappointed in its performance. In fact, if I had to use one like this to make pasta, I'd prefer the handle. Why? Because you can roll it out slowly so that the dough does not tear or clump. Sure, that's how I feel about it after getting used to my chosen electric pasta maker, which cost about $120, so not much cheaper than these, but I've learned their quirks and can make decent pasta on demand while these I would need to improve my noodle skills to be able to confidently make noodles with this machine.
